WHERE SUMMER COMES TO LIFE

The weekly YMCA Camp Cullen themes create an atmosphere of fun and learning, while being centered around the Y's core values. Session themes are designed to add a little individuality and excitement to each session. The themes guide the weekly activities like arts & crafts, nature exploration, games, contests and team building.

BUILDING FRIENDSHIPS, GETTING HEALTHY

JUNE 11-24, 2017

Kamp K'aana introduces children to powerful, life-changing tools for healthy living while offering the fun of an overnight summer camp experience.

Held at YMCA Camp Cullen on Lake Livingston, Kamp K'aana provides a two-week program for kids ages 10-14 who are above a healthy weight.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

Kamp K'aana is designed by a team of specialists from Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) and Baylor College of Medicine and is delivered by the YMCA of Greater Houston at YMCA Camp Cullen.

NUTRITIOUS MEALS

Each day campers receive three meals and several snacks in a meal plan designed by TCH dietitians. Meals are delicious, balanced and nutritious with an emphasis on high fiber and whole grains rather than sugar and fat.

LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCE

Campers are equipped with the tools they need to conquer their weight management issues while at the same time offering an incredible experience that increases self-confidence and builds self-esteem. By the end of camp, campers typically lose between 5 and 10 pounds. Once they return home, children will be motivated to maintain their weight and obtain long-term results. To be eligible for this specialty camp, children must be in the 95th percentile of Body Mass Index (BMI) for their gender and age. Click here to calculate. We will transport the camper’s in the fantastical world of the circus, and the strange and wonderful things that go on there. This week will excite, amaze and astound the campers who join us.

June 25 to July 1

Our Sci-Fi week will take the campers on a journey to the future, imagining what might be possible, and living that dream at YMCA Camp Cullen through futuristic fun and games themed around technology, space travel and other-worldly adventures.

We will have guest educators from The Children’s Museum of Houston teaching campers the principles of chemistry. Kids will explore polymers, discover the difference between physical and chemical changes and make their own lava lamps and bath bombs. On Friday, campers will be amazed by the power of chemistry during a special show where they will witness the freezing effects of dry ice and liquid nitrogen.

Camp to me is an opportunity to leave all your worries behind and enjoy life. To make new friends. To explore the things I like. To get to know nature and myself. Camp makes me a better person.
